Walking in Northumberland - Hadrian's Wall Walk


Hadrian's Wall walk begins in the East at Segedunum Fort in Wallsend Tyne and Wear.  Segedunum Fort is the most easterly point on Hadrian's Wall and is the start of the 84 mile signposted trail to Bowness-on-solway in the West.

From Segedunum the Hadrian's Wall walk runs along the banks of the Tyne through Newcastle along the imprssive Quayside.  The Quayside is home ot the some of the Newcastles most famous sites.  The Tyne Bridge, Sage Music and Arts centre and Millenium Bridge are just the begining of the spectacular Hadrian's Wall walk.

If walking the whole 73 miles is to much for you dont dispare as the award winning Hadrian's Wall Bus service (AD122) is on hand to drop you off nad pick you up.  The Hadrian's Wall Bus service runs between Newcastle upon Tyne and Bowness on Solway until November and stops at most of the Roman attractions along the Wall.  The bus also visits picturesque market towns and villages along the way as well as taking in the spectacular Northumberland countryide.  For more informtion on the Hadrian's Wall Bus service

The best way to Enjoy Northumberland is by foot on one of the many signposted walks and trails.  Northumberland offers walks to suite any ability across varied terin from the Chevioy Hills to the Hadrians Wall walk.  If water is your thing then the 26 mile round Keilder Water walk could be right up your street.

Hadrian's Wall Path
Coast to coast

Hadrian's Wall Path National Trail is an unbroken 84 mile signposted trail passing through the most beautifull part of the country.

Stretching from coast to coast the trail starts at Wallsend in the east heading west to Bowness-on-solway in Cumbria. The Hadrian's Wall Path passes through rolling fields and rugged moorland taking in Newcastle Upon Tyne and Carlisle on the way.  The Hadrian's Wall Path is suitable for all with varied terrain and spectacular scenery.  The Hadrian's Wall Path Trail consists of over 80 short walks all linked to create the coast to coast trail. It is suitable for people of all ages with opportunities for less abled access to many stretches of the Hadrian's Wall Path.  It is ideal for day visits, short breaks or a week-long holiday with many suitable stopover points along the way.
