Cycling in Northumberland - Off Road Cycling in Northumberland

Nestled in the Northern part of the Tyne Valley the village of Kielder is on of the remotest places in England offering spectacular views and breathtaking countryside.  Kielder is home to Europe’s largest man made forests with over 200 square miles of forest making it an ideal place to enjoy off road cycling in Northumberland.  Kielder is also home to Kielder Water, Europe’s largest man made lake with a 27 mile shoreline offering off road cycling for all ages and abilities.

The Kielder area is fast becoming known as one of the best centres for mountain biking in Britain making it a must visit for all cycling enthusiasts.

Castle Hill (4.5 miles)- Suitable for novice cyclists and families

The Castle Hill trail starts at the magnificent Kielder Castle where you can park your car.  The trail follows the Forest Drive which is three kilometres of easy cycling taking in the beauty of the forrest. You then right turn after the Kielder Burn on to an uphill section leading you back into the forest.  You then follow the undulating track gibing spectacular views an d you also get a view of Kielder village. A long descent takes you down to join the Kielder Village Connection Trail. Turn right here and follow the road back to Kielder, with pleasant views of Bakethin reservoir to the left.
