Set on the ancient Island of Lindisfarne, referred to by locals as Holy Island this Castle in Northumberland has been a popular destination with visitors eager to experience the Christian history of the Western World. The island is accessible via a causeway so check the tide times for Lindisfarne before setting out.
Inside the castle, which was converted to a holiday home in 1903, you will explore a spectacular mix of antique Flemish and English furniture plus a fine collection of both porcelain and brass. This is a jewel in the National Trust crown not to be missed. The small Walled Garden adjacent to the castle and spectacular views of Bamburgh Castle, the Farne Islands make this a special destination for visitors to Northumberland. Lindisfarne Castle is open from March to October and is an increasingly popular Wedding Venue. Address: Lindisfarne Castle National Trust Holy Island Berwick-upon-Tweed Northumberland TD15 2SH
